Maharishi (mahā) was founded by Hardy Blechman in 1994 with the vision to create environmentally conscious, durable, utilitarian clothing. Collections have always included hemp, organic cottons and upcycled military clothing, reflecting a respect for nature whilst utilising the latest technology.
They explore the dualistic nature of the universe, often expressed through blending Eastern and Western artworks and silhouettes, combining hi-vis or reflective with camouflage patterns and taking a pacifist approach to military-grade design. Maharishi’s use of camouflage aims to detach disruptive patterns from their military associations, reclaiming the symbolic value away from war and promoting their true roots in nature, and development by artists.

HIGH-VISIBILITY CAMOUFLAGE
Maharishi aims to convey a strong anti-war sentiment through its use of camouflage. Reclaiming its symbolic value away from war, back to its roots in nature and development by artists and to highlight objections to continued 21st century warfare.
Combining camouflage prints with reflective materials or using them internally as linings or pocket bags represents a love of camouflage in its representation of nature and art, and a disdain for it to be used to conceal in order to kill.
Upcycled Military Surplus
The repurposing of military surplus clothing created by governments around the world via their wasteful, destructive military budgets gives garments a secondary more peaceful, positive purpose.
Each item is blessed, smudged with herbal incense and washed in saffron water in an effort to further remove and ‘wash away’ it’s violent history.
