Autumn / Winter 2021 — Drop 2
Patchwork Boro, DPM: Monster Tiger and woven powerloom fabrics are utilised across modified military silhouettes, including deck jackets and parkas, as well as Eastern-inspired styles such as the Monk Coat and Tibetan Jacket.MAHAPATCHCO. ENTERTAINERS TOUR
MAHAPATCHCO. — a sister company to the Maha Tailor Shop — explores the Entertainer and Tour Jackets worn during the Vietnam War era. To boost the morale of troops during wartime, entertainers such as musicians, actors, and comedians would go on tour visiting military barracks — collecting embroidered patches as souvenirs as they travelled, and adding a patch for each stop on the tour. Locally embroidered patches would be commissioned by proud unit commanders, often enlarged to double or triple their usual size, so that they could be seen on stage from afar. For Spring Summer 2021, MAHAPATCHO. has produced a number of Tour Jackets featuring collaborative patches from Hyperdub, Myoshka, Kay One, Teach, Todd James, OJAS, Gasr, Andy Warhol and XL Recordings, as well as rare original patches from U.S. Navy Riverine units, and authentic 60s anti-war patches. Silhouettes include a classic MA-1 Flight Jacket modified with a kimono collar, a Utility Smock based on a 1940's oversmock reconstructed in crushed hemp, and a poncho inspired by the capes worn by military nurses. The capsule looks to the Yōkai folklore of western Japan, highlighting the bovine-headed demon known as the Ushi-Oni.Souvenir Dragon
Referencing WWII Sukajan jackets – a classic souvenir of the wondering soldier – the Ascending Dragon embroideries take inspiration from the traditional designs of New Mexican Chimayo woven textiles, as well as other South American artworks. Variations of the embroidery are detailed across Original Snopants, Souvenir Jackets, Ballistic Vests and Silk Shirts. Fabrics include a vegetable dyed eco twill made in Japan from recovered cotton waste, as well as an eco-conscious blend of cotton and lyocell – where sustainable wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibres whilst also recycling the water used in the process. maharishi interprets the dragon as representing man’s spiritual quest for wisdom. A mythological creature, the dragon takes the form of a snake or serpent with wings. The snake, with its entire body bound to the Earth, is most symbolic of man on Earth. Once that serpent is given wings, it comes to represent man in flight on his spiritual quest.Hill Tribe
