Created and conceptualised by Surface Design Lab within the walls of Building 87, comes a collaborative effort between Maharishi’s DPM Studio and Microsoft.

Available in limited quantities and distribution, the Surface Laptop and Pro devices celebrate the Lunar Year of the Wood Dragon, with the release also coinciding with the 30th and 20th anniversaries of Maharishi and DPM Studio.The Dragon Red is a custom-formulated anodisation colour on the aluminium device enclosures – a first for Surface.

The camouflage pattern, DPM: Wood Dragon Forest, has been specifically developed for the project, which is intended for Maharishi and Microsoft friends and family, including Bashy, who fronts the campaign release.

Maintaining DPM Studio’s core beliefs, the design reinforces camouflage’s roots in nature by the use of bonsai clouds and other organic shapes to form its pattern.

It is meticulously transferred via a galvanometer scanner that directs a laser within the microns-thick, protective anodised layer of aluminium – aligning with Maharishi’s desire to respect nature whilst utilising the latest technology.

In contrast to most laser burning observed in the market, the fibre laser alters the structure of the anodised molecules, creating a finish that is undetectable to the touch and giving the graphic treatment on the devices a premium, integrated aesthetic.

Bespoke, neutral wood-toned packaging further reinforces the creative narrative.
