This season maharishi presents a modern Special Forces inspired collection entitled ‘Into The Light : Survival 2012’. The range features high tech webbing and other technical and utilitarian details reinterpreted for the 2012 Survival Forces, with focus on protection and function in the urban environment.

The collection uses Swiss riri waterproof zips and many Swiss made fabrics including the densely woven naturally waterproof organic cotton ETA, Schoeller cloth with anti-abrasion Kevlar fibres, alongside more elaborate pieces in several types of 3M reflective material which only turn on when exposed to direct white light; incorporated within construction thread, cloth, print ink and embroidery threads.

maharishi has long produced all its jersey and sweat in Organic yarn, and this season many of the wovens are also organic.

Highlights include a Ghillie Sniper Jacket made from hand-tied burlap strands, a Black Emperor Parka with reflective highlights, a super modern interpretation of the formal Emperor Robe worn by Chinese nobility since the 14th century, formal Official Mil Shirting, Zipped Jodphur Pants, MA-1 x Fishtail Parka, a Reflective DPM: Desert Hex Parka, and Ballistic heart protector plates housed within iPad cases and detachable bags on several styles.

Red internal details borrow symbolism from Buddhist prayer robes, whose internal necks are red to represent the jaws of the Lord of Death, within whose mouths they meditate, accepting the inevitability of death.

Maharishi aims to convey a strong anti-war sentiment through its use of camouflage – reclaiming its symbolic value away from war, back to its roots in nature and development by artists and to highlight objections to continued 21st century desert warfare.

Maharishi literally translated means great seer, started in 1994 with the vision to create environmentally sound, fair-trade produced, long-lasting, high-quality, utilitarian clothing. The collection has always included hemp and natural fibers, organic cottons and recycled military clothing. In 2004, Hardy Blechman, founder and creative director of maharishi published DPM Disruptive Pattern Material, a 944-page encyclopedia of camouflage, which documents his theory to detach camouflage from its military associations and promote its natural roots and artistic influences. All production facilities are SA8000 and ISO9001 compliant.
